The Regional Organising Committee of the Pacific Human Rights Conference (PHRC) on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity & Expression and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC) welcomes interested individuals, organisations and stakeholders to submit an expression of interest to attend its third Conference to be held from 22-26 April, 2024 in Nadi, Fiji.

Due to limited funding, we are unable to financially support the participation of LGBTQIA+ Pacific people in the diaspora, allies and other stakeholders. However, we invite you to complete this EOI and if selected by the Regional Organising Committee, we will send you an invitation letter to help support your fundraising to attend the conference.

The Conference serves as a platform to strengthen and advance ideas, collaboration, solidarity, activism, advocacy and movement-building to address the unique challenges faced by Pacific people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual (LGBTQIA+), or with Indigenous and other diverse gender identities and expressions unique to the region. It is an important regional event building on the success of the first PHRC (Tonga, 2015) and the 2nd PHRC (Fiji, 2018).

With the theme of Pacific Islanders of Diverse Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression and Sex Characteristics: Working for Global Justice and Local Human Rights, the Conference will create a fierce and lasting impact towards a vision for a resilient Pacific region of peace, harmony, security, social inclusion and prosperity, that ensures all Pacific peoples can lead free, healthy and productive lives as per the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.

The Pacific Sexual and Gender Diversity Network based in Suva, Fiji is the Secretariat of the Conference convened by a Regional Organising Committee made up of LGBTQIA+ civil society organisations across the Pacific. You can read a detailed concept note for the Conference here.

The conference is primarily for LGBTQIA+ people who live in the Pacific small island states. It will mainly involve LGBTQIA+ activists and Human Rights defenders already active or wishing to become so, from within the region. There will be a select few regional and international experts invited to speak at the event as well as state officials, development partners and donors invited to be observers in some sessions.

If your applicant is successful, you will be required to pay mandatory registration fees to the Conference Secretariat to cover your meals and other related expenses for the entirety of the 5-day program. We will advise on the total cost once your application is processed.

You will have to make your own travel arrangements to Nadi, Fiji and the Secretariat will provide you with a discount code that can be used to book for accommodation at the conference venue or nearby hotels.

The deadline for expressions of interest closes on Friday 5pm 19 January 2024 Fiji Time. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis so we would advise applying as early as possible.
